ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HAUNTING

Michael Bertolini

When I was in elementary school, I was a straight A student. In fourth grade, my friend and I were sent by our teacher to help bring the audio-visual equipment into the school's basement. Since we were both good students, we were allowed to move at our leisure.

After an hour or so of going back and forth carrying projectors and slides and stuff, we decided to take a break from work and explore. There was a gym in the basement that the handicapped children used, and we wanted to see it. The doors from the hallway were locked, but we found a bathroom that connected from the hallway to the gym. We went into the bathroom, and the door closed behind us. We went to the door at the back of the bathroom and pushed the handle down, but it didn't budge.

A little frustrated, we went back to the door we came in and tried the handle. That door was locked too. We took a few deep breaths, and kept trying both doors, but neither opened. We tried turning the handles, kicking the handles, and running at the doors (which doesn't work when your nine!). We didn't know what to do, and didn't know if anyone would come looking for us any time soon.

Somehow we ended up standing in front of the sink, and we both looked into the mirror. That's when a face appeared, clear as day. It was a pale skinned face, no visible eyes, and a bushy mustache. We didn't recognize the face, all we knew was that there was no body attached to the face we saw. We ran to the hall door, but it was locked, then ran to the door at the back. My friend twisted the handle as if it weren't even there, and we ran through the darkened gym back out into the hall.

After a few minutes of catching our breathes, and asking each other 'did you see that?' we opened the door and looked inside, but nobody was there. I held the door open and my friend went to the door in the back of the bathroom. It was locked.
