Media Board Meeting
August 30, 2006

Present: Jean Alicandro, Susan Sweeney, Duncan Sanford, Mark Rowan, Gilbert Gigliotti, Mike McDonald, John Adam Tercyak-Morgan, Otis Mamed, Amanda James
I. Welcome
Ms. Alicandro called the meeting to order at 1:15 pm.
Ms. Alicandro introduced Ms. James the new University Assistant for the Media Board.
II. Roster and Membership- 2006-2007
Ms. Alicandro spoke about the need for representation from The Recorder. Mr. Rowan said that they would have somebody from The Recorder present at the Media Board meetings this year.
III. Attendance
Attendance was passed around.
IV. Review last minutes
Ms. Alicandro stated that there are minutes from last year that still need to be approved. We were not able to approve them because there were not enough voting members in attendance at the meeting.
V. Recorder Archives
Ms. Sweeney spoke about the archiving project that is being done with old editions of The Recorder. She mentioned that at a future meeting we would need to approve payment for the preservation of old issues of the newspaper. Ms. Sweeney also mentioned that we may want to consider archiving The Helix at some point.
VI. Positions that need to be filled
Ms. Alicandro stated that since Albert Kim was not returning this year that we need someone to fill his position, of Academic or Administrative Faculty Representative. Vivian Martin is on sabbatical; therefore, the newspaper needs someone to step in as their advisor. The newspaper has already asked Anthony Cannella to be their advisor while Ms. Martin is absent. Ms. Alicandro also pointed out that we need someone to fill the Community Representative Position on the Media Board. Other positions that need to be filled are the Student Senate position, 2 Students at Large, and we need 2 members from The Helix.
VII. Budgets
Ms. Alicandro told Mr. Rowan that The Recorder needs to get their budget sheet done so that we can approve it at the next meeting. WFCS and The Helix has already completed their budget requests.
VIII. General Sharing
Mr. Rowan shared that The Recorder had a meeting last Monday, August 28th. They hired new photographers and writers. The first issue of The Recorder will be released on September 6. They have hired someone do maintain their webpage and have hired a new delivery person. They have also revamped their rate card so that they may begin to have advertising space this year.
Mr. Tecyak-Morgan spoke about the WFCS and the online broadcasting that is beginning to start up. Their first meeting will be September 10. They also have their automation system up and working. This year they will be broadcasting the football games. They have also trained new DJ’s and have seen a growing interest in membership.
