Media Board Meeting

February 6, 2009

Student Center

 

Present:  Peter Collin, Melissa Traynor, Edward Gaug, Gil Gigliotti, Brook DelGiudice, Nicole Lalime, Michelle Hannon, David Cappella, Bryce McKinzie, Lillian Brabner, Earl Nelson, Karen Ritzenhoff, Susan Sweeney (Advisor), Amanda James (UA)

 

I.   Welcome

 

Ms. Sweeney called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m.

 

The minutes from the November 7, 2008 meeting were reviewed.

 

Motion:  (Hannon/McKinzie) To approve the November 7, 2008 Media Board Minutes.

 

Motion passed (8 Yes, 0 No, 0 Abstained)                                                    (MBD09-05)

 

II.  Attendance

 

Attendance was passed around.

 

III.  Travel to ACP

 

The Recorder and Off-Center Magazine will be traveling to the Associated Collegiate Press Conference in San Diego February 26th through March 1st.  This conference will be a great experience for these organizations and a wonderful networking opportunity.  The students will report on the conference at the next Media Board meeting.

 

IV. AWP Conference

 

The Helix Magazine will be attending that Associated Writers Press Conferences in Chicago, February 11th through February 15th.  This conference will have workshops, lectures as well as networking opportunities.  The students will report on the conference at the next Media Board meeting.

 

V. Trip to Radio Station

WFCS is looking in to taking a trip to see another radio station.  The possibilities include Boston, NYC or Asnutuck Community College.  They also brought up the possibility of doing a combined trip to see a radio station and a newspaper

 

VI. Sharing

 

The Recorder:  They will be attending ACP in March.  They have also been

 

Off-Center:  They will be attending ACP in March.  They are hoping to publish a magazine in the early spring. 

 

The Helix: They will be attending AWP next week.  They will also be going out to bid for the magazine and hope to have it printed earlier this year in time for release party that corresponds with a Poetry Marathon sponsored by the English department. 

 

WFCS:  They have been able to get tech support to help them with their IT needs.  They have members who work at IT and are able to provide support. 

 

VII. Other Business:  There will be a lecture on March 4th in Torp Theater, “My Bi-Polar Road Trip”.  This lecture is sponsored by NAMI on campus.
