The National Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) is the largest student-run organization in the country. It provides a place for Residence Hall Associations (RHA) to network with other schools, find interesting programming ideas, and to receive support when needed. The North East Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (NEACURH) is one the eight regions that are part of NACURH. CCSU IRC belongs to NEACURH and maintains the position of National Communications Coordinator (NCC) on their executive board to help with communication between CCSU IRC, NEACURH, and NACURH.
CCSU IRC sends a delegation to about three conferences a year, the Regional conference in the fall semester, Mini/No Frills conference in the spring semester, and the national conference in June at various colleges and universities around the Northeast. Each of these conference delegations are open to all residents on campus and should contact the NCC, Lauren Horsfield for more information. The 2006 NEACURH regional conference was held at SUNY Oneonta in NY in November and it was the first time that CCSU had been affiliated with NEACURH and NACURH. CCSU also bid for regional Program of the Year for our Dean's Cup competition. The regional Program of the Year is given to the school whose program has made the most difference on campus and can be brought to other campuses. CCSU was proud to accept the award for Regional Program of the Year on behalf of all of the residents on campus who participate and get excited about Dean's Cup. CCSU also presented a program for other schools entitled "Forget the Stanley Cup, We've Got the Dean's Cup" about Dean's Cup. The program was very well received and earned a Top Ten Program out of about forty-five programs.
The 2007 NEACUH Mini/No Frills conference was held at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island in late February. CCSU presented two programs, one entitled "Forget the Stanley Cup, We've Got the Dean's Cup" about Dean's Cup and the other called "I'd Like to Make a Motion To" about explaining Robert's Rules of Order to hall councils. CCSU was also very proud to be awarded the Regional Board of Director's Choice Award for Outstanding School of the Year. The award is a great honor, as it is chosen by the top eight people in the regional and it was not something that could be bid for.
CCSU IRC will be attending the NACURH National conference in June at the Universtiy of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, from June 1 to 4. If anyone is interested in going, please contact the NCC, Lauren Horsfield at horsfieldlaj@ccsu.edu.
