C. O. L. A. D. A. (Central’s Organization of Latin American Dance Awareness) was founded by Oscar Santiago and Janet Plenas.  The principle reason for starting the ensemble was to promote cultural awareness through dance.  Since its creation, C. O. L. A. D. A. has grown in number and repertoire.  In fact, the troupe has performed at various on campus events such as the Fall Open House and the Caribbean Fest.  Furthermore, C. O. L. A. D. A. has performed off campus at Eastern Connecticut State University  for O.L.A.S. (Organization of Latin American Students), the East Hartford Sheraton as part of a concert with the Merengue group Oro Solido; New London High School; the Central Inn in New Britain, opening for Salsa recording artist George Lamond; St. Joseph’s College; and last October a complete show at the West Hartford Branch of the University of Connecticut as part of its annual “Latin Evening/Noche Latina.” 

     C. O. L. A. D. A. brings together students of different backgrounds, talents, and cultures.  Members unite to express the richness and variety of Latin dance. C. O. L. A. D. A. is currently working with choreographer Jacqueline Escobar.  The ensemble has over thirty members and performed on November 23 at Boston University as part of its New England Dance Collaboration, an event showcasing over thirty groups from around New England. 

HISTORIA

     C. O. L. A. D. A. (Central’s Organization of Latin American Dance Awareness) fue fundado en 1996 por Oscar Santiago y Janet Plenas.  La razón principal de formar el grupo fue de promocionar la cultura a través del baile.  Desde su creación, C. O. L. A. D. A. ha crecido en número y repertorio.  De hecho, el grupo se ha presentado en various eventos en la Universidad de Central Connecticut como el Open House del Otoño y el Festival Caribeño.  Adicionalmente, C. O. L. A. D. A. se ha presentado en otros lugares en el estado como la Universidad de Eastern Connecticut para O.L.A.S. (Organización de Estudiantes Latino-Americanos), New London High School, el Hotel Sheraton en East Hartford como parte de un concierto con el grupo de Merengue Oro Solido; en el Central Inn, abriendo el concierto del artista de salsa George Lamond; St. Joseph’s College, y el octubre pasado en el campus de West Hartford de la Universidad de Connecticut en un show completo, como parte del espectáculo anual “Noche Latina.” 

     C. O. L. A. D. A. une estudiantes de diversos talentos y culturas.  Miembros se reunen para expresar la riqueza y la variedad del baile latino.  Presentemente, C. O. L. A. D. A. está trabajando con el coreógrafo Jacqeline Escobar.  El grupo consiste de más de treinta miembros y se presento el 23 de noviembre en la Universidad de Boston en la función “New England Dance Collaboration” donde participaron más de treinta grupos de baile de toda Nueva Inglaterra.
