Performing Groups

Cheerleaders try out in the spring. Twelve students are chosen, ten full members and two alternates. The squad performs at home varsity games and those reasonably nearby. Once a student is chosen, proper academic standing must be maintained to continue as a cheerleader.

COLADA (Central Organization of Latin American Dance Awareness) promotes Latin American music through participation and attendance in weekly dance classes offered by students on campus; furthers the understanding and awareness of Latin American culture through music, dance, and movement; educates others of the various types and styles of music and dance in the Latin American culture; and encourages all students of different ethnic backgrounds to participate in a cultural group and learn more about the Latin American culture and its various characteristics.

Central A Cappella Society shall promote the sharing of a love of music with the student body; to further the creation and learning of a cappella music through different performing ensembles; and, to encourage students of all majors to participate in musical activities.

DanCentral encourages student participation in creative dance performances with specific emphasis on modern dance.

Dance Team will promote a competitive dance experience; to further student knowledge of competitive dance and achievement in dance; and to encourage school spirit through dance activities, entertainment, and opportunities for CCSU to be recognized for student dance achievement.

Ebony Choral Ensemble seeks to develop an African-American consciousness at CCSU and to improve the cultural and social development of students through music and cultural enlightenment.

Pep Squad performs innovative dance routines at sporting events, campus social activities, talent shows, community presentations, and intercollegiate contests.

Theatre Unlimited broadens the theatrical experience of its members by providing a greater understanding and appreciation of drama and by making a significant contribution to the fine arts at CCSU.


The following performing ensembles are academic courses which carry one credit hour per semester. They are repeatable for credit since the music is different each semester. Credits may be applied to general education requirements in Mode 4 (Artistic).

CCSU Chorale (MUS 141) is a group of about 75 singers which performs each semester.  The group rehearses two afternoons each week. Permission of the instructor required.

Concert Band

Jazz Ensemble (MUS 140) is open to all students and performs jazz and stage band literature.  The group rehearses two afternoons each week and performs regularly.  Permission of the instructor required.

Marching Band promotes school spirit; furthers musical spirit between majors and non-majors; and encourages spirit and excitement about our CCSU athletic teams.

Percussion Ensemble (MUS 263) performs during the spring semester, and is open to percussion players.  The group meets one afternoon each week. Permission of the instructor required.

University Singers (MUS 140) is a selct chamber group auditioned separately from the chorus.  The group rehearses two afternoons each week and performs regularly.

University-Community Orchestra (MUS 143) is composed of University and community players and offers students a full symphonic experience.  The ensemble rehearses one evening each week and performs on concert per semester. Permission of the instructor required.
