Welcome to the Student Government Association of Central Connecticut State University’s website. Here, you will find information concerning the SGA including news, meeting minutes, member profiles, and much more. These pages will be constantly updated so please check back frequently.

The Student Government Association is for everyone who would like to help make CCSU the best it can be. The full-time undergraduate students of CCSU make up the membership of the SGA. The SGA Senate is the representative body of the SGA. Its members, the executive officers and senators of the SGA, are democratically elected by the full-time undergraduates of CCSU. The SGA senate is responsible for acting as “The Voice of Student’s.” We handle their concerns, needs and celebrations. The SGA Senate is also responsible for promoting student participation in the various projects, committees and organizations at the university, state, and national level that help shape the university and education in Connecticut. The SGA Senate allocates the SGA portion of the Student Activity Fund that is paid by all full-time undergraduate students. The Student Activity Fund is used to promote and fund student clubs, activities, services and forums for the benefit of the students and their educational opportunities. If you would like to get involved or would just like more information, contact the SGA President Andrew Froning, at 832-3740, or via email at Froninganm@ccsu.edu, or visit the office in Room 211 in the Student Center.

SGA Quick Facts

All undergraduate students who attend CCSU are members of the Student Government Association. The Student Senate, also referred to as the SGA, is the voting body, which governs expenditures made using a portion of the student activity fees paid to CCSU. The senate consists of Resident Senators, Commuter Senators and an Executive Board made up of a President, Vice-President and Treasurer.

The SGA operates under CT Statute 4-54. The portion of the fee managed by the SGA consists of $44 out of each student’s total activity fees. These monies are used for the following purposes:

Base Budgets - clubs and organizations are allocated a base amount each year, according to how well they have used their budgets in past years. New clubs receive a base budget allocation of $700.00.

Contingency Requests - clubs and organizations may apply for additional funds to pay for unforseen expenses.

The Senate Budget is the portion of the monies used to allocate funds for senate-sponsored events, both the senate’s own events and those held in conjunction with other groups on campus.

Committee Budgets - SGA committees receive budgets to carry out their various responsibilities. Some of these committees allocate funds to student clubs and organizations for the specific purpose managed by that committee.

The Senate Operations Budget is used to pay for general operating expenses such as office supplies, phones and the copier and to pay senate workers.

SGA Motions if you are a club officer or university administrator you may look up individual motions, contact Ms. Brooks, at 832-3740, for more information.
