Check out the Important Dates link on your left for a calendar of our upcoming events. Below is a quick explanation of each one we currently have on our calendar. We have more on the way! Freshmen & New Student Meeting (Wed. Sept. 10) - After our officers had spent the summer at CCSU's freshmen orientations, we realized that incoming students have a lot of questions. We're going to do this as an open question meeting, not just limited to the subject of education. Feel free to talk to the officers about any questions you may have about your upcoming semester, year, or entire education at CCSU, or about anything in general. We'll give you our advice on what to avoid, what to involve yourself in, and any short cuts. We want to make you feel comfortable at CCSU so you can be successful. CCSU Club Fair (Wed. Sept. 10) - Many of the clubs at CCSU are going to put themselves on display during the afternoon in the student center. Use this as a way to find out about us before our first meeting as well as any other club you may be interested in. Devil's Den at 10 PM (Thurs. Sept. 11) - The Education Club has another opportunity to host the Devil's Den at 10 PM. We will do our own rendition of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" again, except this time with better execution, more questions, and better prizes. New Teacher Panel (Thurs. Sept. 25) - We're all excited about having our own classroom one day. Come down to the New Teacher Panel to talk to educators who have just finished their first year of teaching. It's not that far away for most of us. It's definitely worth taking your time to come ask these teachers questions on their entire first year experience. We did this last year, and people loved it. We're sure you will too. Bowl to Enroll (Sat. Sept. 27) - This is going to be a CEA sponsored event to promote everyone to sign up for a CEA/NEA student membership. Bowl with friends, meet new people, sign up for the ridiculously beneficial membership of CEA and NEA, and beat UConn at something. S'mores Event (Thurs. Oct. 2) - Stop by our grill outside Memorial Hall after you eat dinner and make a s'more with the Education Club before you go out for your Thursday night. Classroom Set Up Competition (Fri. Oct. 3) - Take your education knowledge and apply it to our competition. We're going to split up into teams, and then give each team a classroom, materials, and requirements. Whatever team sets up their classroom best according to our judges will win prizes. This is a time to get some ideas for the future as well as meet other members and practice working in a team environment. Big Brother Big Sister Event (Sat. Oct. 18) - More details to come as we get them! Lesson Plan Design Conference (Sun. Oct. 26) - Lesson plans are one of the most important concepts of teaching. CEA is funding a conference for both elementary and secondary education majors on the topic at CCSU. This is definitely something worth sacrificing some time for because it is a crucial part of your future career.
Have any questions about what you're seeing here? Then send the group an email! We want to know what you're thinking, whether you're pumped, confused, or have some criticism. We're always open to opinions, especially ones that will make our club better. You can always leave you comments on on the wall of our facebook group.
