Progressive Student Alliance Minuets January 24, 2007

The PSA is happy to welcome JD to his first meeting!

Ice Breaker:
"Why is MTR awesome and/or KN crazy?"

United for Peace and Justice March:
Washington DC, January 27
JB, LG and KN are going, JB can offer rides; KN has one spot left open.

Secondary Meetings:
There are about five people in the International Club who would rather come to PSA meetings but, due to scheduling conflicts, cannot make it.

LK motioned that we hold secondary meetings on Fridays or another day of the week.
The motion did not pass.

JVB suggested that those who cannot make the Wednesday meetings meet informally on Fridays. These people cannot vote but would have an opportunity to raise concerns about decisions made at official Wednesday night meetings.
NC suggested that these people join the list serve and visit the MySpace page.
MTR offered to meet with people on Fridays when he is available.

National Conference on Organized Resistance/Left Forum:
Washington DC, March 9 - 11/New York City, March 9 – 11
About 12 people plan on going to NCOR, 3 to Left Forum
MTR looked up hotel prices, although it was the general feeling that cheaper lodging could be found elsewhere, VP is looking into it.

PSA Forums:
February topic: a women's right to choose

This is a joint project with WIN

WRC:
Sweatshop fashion show to be held in late February. We will display CCSU apparel and explain why the conditions under which it was produced is wrong.
Key organizers: LS, JVB, NC, JP

We have a meeting with President Miller and his lawyer scheduled for Monday, January 29 at 10:00 a.m. WS will call NC Monday morning.
 
In late March we are going to hold a sweatshop game show event.

We are going to try to sponsor a Devil's Den night. LS is looking into this.

WS is going to show a series of films. He has this covered.

JD is going to hand out flyers at the bookstore.

WS motioned that $200.00 be spent on WRC flyers. MTR proposed that an additional $200.00 be spent on general PSA flyers.
The motion passed.

WRC matters will now be discussed during PSA meetings.

Tabling:
JVB can table between 12:15 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
LS is available after 11:50 a.m.
VP has Wednesdays off.
MTR will table when he is available.

Website:
We're in the process of building a new website.
We are looking into buying our own address.

PSA Party/Movie Night:
We will try to have a party about every 2 weeks.
The first one will be held at the Pueblo.
Saturday, February 3 from 9:38 until ????
JVB has reserved the sofa.

ARC:
There is a general feeling that ARC has been mismanaged and run undemocratically.
MTR and WS reminded people that a lot of time and effort has been put into ARC and urged that the project not be abandoned. KN suggested that PSA assume responsibility for the referendum and complete it quickly.

Jello Biafra:
Will visit CCSU in March. More info to come.

Riot Folk:
2 members are on tour. For a reasonable price we will try to bring them to campus. JVB is looking into it.
